Bedous (in medieval gasconnes notation (local language) Bedos [be'ðus]) is a French municipality with 597 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

location

The municipality is part of the Vallée d'Aspe , in Bedous the mountain stream Gabarret, coming from the east, flows into the Gave d'Aspe .

Neighboring communities of Bedous are Sarrance in the north, Aydius in the east, Accous in the south, Lées-Athas in the south-west and Osse-en-Aspe in the west.

Economy and Transport

Bedous has now become a service center, but agriculture still plays a role, especially cheese production.

The Pau-Oloron-Canfranc (France - Spain) railway line was closed - Bedous lost its rail connection in 1980. The section from Pau to Oloron was reopened on January 24, 2011; on July 3, 2016 the official restart to Bedous took place. A further extension to Canfranc is planned.
