Attractions

Parish Church of Saint Barthélemy
  • Parish church dedicated to the Apostle Bartholomew . Originally, the church belonged to Saint-Vincent Abbey in Lucq-de-Béarn before it was abandoned after a fire. The landlord de Ledeuix initiated a new building and became abbot of the lay monastery, which resulted in the abbey losing all rights to the parish. The nave has a nave and is closed with a semicircular apse in the Romanesque style. For a long time the town hall was located on the first floor of the church. The elements of the altarpiece inside the church are separated by smooth columns that are painted as an imitation marble . The painting in the middle is from the 19th century and shows Christ crucified . Statues of the apostles Simon Peter and Bartholomäus are on the side wings of the altarpiece, which is decorated in the upper part with vases with indicated flames, cartouches and a representation of God the Father . The two-winged tabernacle dates from the 17th century. A canopy in the form of a shell is set up on it and is closed at the top with a dome and a statuette that reproduces the motif of Mary with baby Jesus . The reliefs on the side panels show Mary and the Holy Spirit on one side and the Archangel Gabriel on the other .
  • Château du Peyré. The origins of the castle near the mouth of the Escou in the Gave go back a long way, but there is no mention of corresponding nobles in any writing. It could be related to the management of a sand pit that belonged to a Mr. Mauco in 1773. In the cadastre of 1809 the castle is listed under the name de Dufraisse together with agricultural and other outbuildings. A water mill further upstream also belonged to the estate. The house is a rectangular building with an octagonal tower as well as a group of watch towers with pointed roofs . The frames of the windows are provided with rod ornaments, except for those facing the Gave, because an outbuilding was added in the 19th century.
  • House Labat. It is originally the community's lay monastery, which has changed hands several times over the centuries. In the 17th century it was a nobility seat and mentioned in the scriptures. In 1736 the house was bought by the uncle of the local singer Pierre Jéliote. The complex consists of a residential building with two floors and an attic, barns and other agricultural buildings as well as a garden with exotic plants.
