Attractions

  • Auterrive Church, built in the 16th century on the bricks of the previous building. Its dimensions are 17 m × 6 m with a windowless apse and a side entrance with a roof with three arches . In 1920 the church was restored with a new roof and a starry sky painted on the ceiling inside. A chapel in honor of Mary was added in 1925. The altarpiece dates from the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century on the occasion of a wedding. The architrave and frieze rest on two Corinthian wooden pillars that frame a painting depicting the Archangel Michael defeating the dragon. Volutes made of wood flank the overall composition. Suarez d'Aulan, Bishop of Dax , gave the picture when he visited in 1739, when his carriage had almost been swept away by the water while crossing the Gave d'Oloron.
  • Larribère Mill. It was built in 1810 over the stream de la Pounte, which connects the lake of the same name with the Gave d'Oloron and forms a natural border with the neighboring town of Escos. The legal question of affiliation is resolved by a diversion of the brook to the south, so that the mill is completely in the local area of Auterrive. The mill channel is known for the occurrence of the great pond clam .
