On the map of Cassini 1750, Barraute is entered under today's toponym , during the French consulate in 1801 as Baraulte and Barrante . Camu is mentioned in 1477 as Camur en Bearn in contract texts by Ohix, notary of Soule .
Barraute and Camu had the same feudal lords since the Middle Ages , the Counts of Barraute, who swore the feudal oath to the Viscount of Béarn in the middle of the 16th century .
June 14, 1841, Barraute and Camu merged to form the community of Barraute-Camu.

Attractions
- Church Saint-Cyprien-et-Sainte-Justine . The original structure was built in the 12th and 13th centuries, as evidenced by the irregular sizes of the stones and bricks. The entrance was renewed in the first half of the 19th century. Under the influence of the classicist style, the door is provided with a fronton above the lintel and framed by white stones. An important restoration took place towards the end of the 19th century, when new stained glass windows were installed, made by the Mauméjean stained glass factory in Biarritz , which is well known in the region . The medieval look of the church tower has not changed due to the work in the last two centuries.
