Kennerley Rumford
Robert Henry Kennerley Rumford (born September 2, 1870 in Hampstead , London , † March 9, 1957 in North Stoke , Oxfordshire ) was an English singer ( baritone ) and singing teacher .
Rumford studied in Paris with Giovanni Sbriglia and Jacques Bouhy . He continued his training in London with Alfred Blume and George Henschel , under whose direction he made his debut in 1893. In 1900 he married the alto Clara Butt , with whom he frequently appeared in duo from then on. He went on concert tours with her through the USA and Canada, to Australia and New Zealand. In 1914 he became a soldier in the First World War. After finishing his service, he rarely performed. He then worked as a singing teacher in Oxford.
