Kenneth Slessor
Kenneth Slessor (born March 27, 1901 in Orange , New South Wales , † June 30, 1971 in Sydney ) was one of Australia's most famous poets . He also worked as a newspaper journalist (especially for the Sydney Sun ) and as a war correspondent in World War II .
Slessor brought modernist influences into Australian poetry . He produced most of his poetic works before the war. Five Bells is the best known poem related to Sydney Harbor . The Beach Burial poem is a tribute to the Australian troops who fought in World War II. The last stanza reads:
- Dead seamen, gone in search of the same landfall,

- Or fought with us, or neither; the sand joins them together,
- Enlisted on the other front.
