Kenneth Snelson

Kenneth Snelson (born June 29, 1927 in Pendleton, Oregon - † December 22, 2016 ) was an American artist and sculptor .

The main topic of his work was the action of physical forces, mainly the pressure and tension effect, in space. He usually represented this by means of solid metal tubes and flexible wires. Together with Richard Buckminster Fuller , his former lecturer at Black Mountain College , he is credited with inventing tensegrity .

In 1994 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
