Kerala J. Snyder

Kerala Johnson Snyder (* 1936 ) is an American musicologist , organist and retired high school teacher of the Eastman School of Music .

Life

Snyder is a graduate of Wellesley College (BA) and Harvard Divinity School . She received her Ph.D. at Yale University . From 1969 to 1981 she taught at Yale, from 1981 to 1987 at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and from 1987 at the Eastman School of Music.

She is an expert in North German and North European baroque music, especially organ music , and wrote the authoritative biography of Dietrich Buxtehude . In 1988, together with the musicologist from Uppsala University Erik Kjellberg , she started an initiative to digitize the dowel collection , which was to be made accessible to the public via the Internet. In September 2006, the database was presented to the public as part of a musicological symposium in the Gustavianum Museum and a concert.
