Entrance into the Kerenzer tunnel

The Kerenzertunnel is a 5760 m long road tunnel along the Walensee , which is usually only driven in one direction. The two-lane motorway in the direction of the south A3 ( Zurich - Sargans ) runs through the Kerenzerberg . In the opposite direction there are six individual tunnels (Ofenegg, Weisswand, Standenhorn , Glattwand, Mühlehorn , Stutz) through which the main road used to run in two-way traffic.

Before the tunnel opened in 1986, there were often traffic jams on the Walenseestrasse and accidents on the bypass over the Kerenzerberg.

Radio signals from the SRF 1 and FM1 radio stations are broadcast in the tunnel .

The Kerenzer Tunnel runs parallel to the Kerenzerberg railway tunnel, which was built in 1960 .
