Kermajärvi (literally finn. "Kerma" for "cream", "järvi" for "lake") is a lake in the Finnish municipality of Heinävesi in the countryside Savo .
The lake has an area of 85.57 km² and consists of an open water area with many islands in the north-west and south-east. There are several long, narrow bays on both sides of the river. The maximum northwest-southeast extension of the lake is 29 km. The northwest-southeast orientation of Kermajärvi is an indication of the moving glaciers during the last ice age .
The lake receives a large part of its inflow from the northern Varisvesi , which belongs to the Iso-Kalla lake system , via the Karvionkoski rapids . About the rapids Kerma and Vihovuonteenkoski the water leaves the lake to the southern Ruokovesi , which then continue on the rapids of Pilppa to Haukivesi flows.
The Kermajärvi is the main lake of the Heinäveden reitti waterway. This forms one of two connections between the Iso-Kalla and Saimaa lake systems (the other is the Leppävirran reitti waterway).
At the beginning of the 20th century, shipping canals were built on all of the rapids and named after the rapids.
The Kirchdorf Heinävesi is located on the south bank of the Kermajärvi.
