Core jump
A core jump is by physical weathering caused radially extending groove or gap in the rock .
Core jumps arise from temperature weathering and can be observed above all in deserts , where the temperature differences during the day can be particularly pronounced (temperature jump).
Stone blocks as high as a house are sometimes split into individual parts right down to the core.
Core cracks also occurred in large boulder rocks that were transported by the glaciers during cold periods . Often times, the ice took the broken stones with it, rounding the corners. Such stones can often be found as boulders in the ground moraines of northern Germany.
In rare cases, all parts of a boulder divided by a core jump are found.
