Kerstin Emich , after marriage to Kerstin Birod , (born December 14, 1962 in Rüsselsheim ) is a former German judoka .

Kerstin Emich from JC Rüsselsheim won her first German championship title in 1983 in the weight class up to 48 kilograms. Further titles followed in 1986, 1989, 1990 and 1992, in between she won the title in the weight class up to 52 kilograms in 1991. In 1983, 1986 and 1987 the Rüsselsheim Judo Club became German team champions.

At the 1987 World Championships in Essen , she was eliminated in her first fight against the South Korean Cho Min-sun . In 1988 she finished second at the Fukuoka Cup behind the British Karen Briggs . In 1989 she reached fifth place at the World Championships in Belgrade . At the end of 1989 she reached the final in Fukuoka again, this time she was defeated by the Chinese Li Aiyue . In early 1990 she lost to the French Cécile Nowak in the finals of the Tournoi de Paris . A fortnight later, Emich won the World Masters tournament in front of a home crowd in Rüsselsheim. At the European Championships in 1990 in Frankfurt am Main, she lost to Cécile Nowak in her opening fight. With three wins in the Hope Round she reached the battle for bronze, which she lost to the Italian Giovanna Tortora . In 1991 Emich took third place at the World Masters, which this time was held in Munich. At the European Championships in 1991 in Prague she reached the battle for bronze as in the previous year and again she was defeated by Giovanna Tortora. In 1992 women's judo was on the program for the first time at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . Kerstin Emich won her first fight against the Taiwanese Huang Yu-Shin with a Yuko rating and then eliminated against Giovanna Tortora with a Yuko rating.
