Kerstin Gernig

Kerstin Gernig (* 1964 in Berlin ) is a German author and former editor-in-chief of the specialist magazine “bestattungskultur”.

Life

She studied German, Romance studies and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin and the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. After passing the 1st and 2nd state exams, she taught from 1994 to 1997 as a DAAD lecturer at the Université des Sciences Humaines in Strasbourg and received her doctorate in 1998 from the Free University of Berlin on " Kafka Reception in France".

As a postdoctoral fellow, from 1999 to 2001 she conducted research in the DFG graduate college "Body Staging" at the Free University of Berlin on dealing with the body, staging nudity , the perception of the other and the rituals of death and dying in a cultural comparison.

From 2001 to 2011 she was editor-in-chief of the trade journal “bestattungskultur”, for whose relaunch she was awarded the shortlist of the German trade press and, as an expert on sepulchral culture, published numerous conference proceedings and cultural stories.

She has lived and worked as an author and blogger in Berlin since 2011 and deals with the topics of entrepreneurship , founding , start-up companies and mental change processes in mid- life.

Her book “Become what you can! How to Become an Unusual Entrepreneur ”was nominated by Murmann Verlag for the German Business Book Prize.

Award

In 2014 she was recognized as a model entrepreneur in Germany by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy . Then she initiated the volunteer-led entrepreneur safari.
