Life

Kettly Mars grew up in Port-au-Prince. In the 1990s, she published her first poems and became known as a poet.

In Kasale (2003), her first novel, she portrayed the spiritual dead ends in daily struggle in Haiti and what it means to remain human in increasingly difficult circumstances. L'heure hybride (2005) deals with the love of a homosexual son for his mother and her work as a prostitute. In Fado (2008) she described the self-search of a Haitian upper-class woman who was abandoned by her husband after ten years of marriage and began a double life. Wilde Zeiten (2010) takes place during the time of the dictator François Duvalier in the 1960s and examines the intertwining of political violence and paid sexuality. Before dying of thirst (2013) is about an architect who works in a camp for the victims of the 2010 earthquake and fights in vain against his pedophile tendencies towards underage girls.
