Ketty La Rocca (born July 14, 1938 in La Spezia , † February 7, 1976 in Florence ) was an Italian concept , body art artist and poet of visual poetry .

Life

In 1964 La Rocca started making collages . Since the 1970s she has been developing her performative series in which she combined the language of the hands with words. La Rocca's research focuses on the language she deeply distrusted, the images and stereotypical signs of the everyday world with the aim of making the ruling politics of the body visible.

In 1972 she was represented at the Biennale di Venezia with the video Appendice per una supplica / Appendix for a petition . She also worked with mirror and metal objects, text paintings and individual letters made from black plastic. They are glued to the wall or placed freely in the room like sculptures. The "I" and the "J" stand for the English and French "I", respectively.

Ketty La Rocca's work Riduzioni was on view in 2015 at the exhibition Feminist Avant-garde of the 1970s in the Hamburger Kunsthalle . Other artists were u. a. Valie Export , Ana Mendieta , Lynda Benglis , Gina Pane , Eleanor Antin and Cindy Sherman .
