In 1974 the November edition of the art newspaper Artforum caused a scandal when it printed an advertisement placed by the artist in which the artist published naked, holding an oversized dildo .

This picture, originally only planned as an independent work by the artist, was to be printed before the corresponding contribution at the artist's request after she learned of an article by Pincus-Witten being published. When the publisher declined, the artist bought a double-sided ad for $ 3,000 and placed it in front of the relevant article.

In 2011 Lynda Benglis was elected a member (NA) of the National Academy , New York. She has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters since 2012 .

On July 21, 2012 she was awarded the Erich Hauser Prize of the Erich Hauser Art Foundation . The award ceremony and exhibition opening with the title FLOW AND MARKS was on July 21st and could be attended until August 26th in the workshop hall of the Erich Hauser Art Foundation in Rottweil.
