Kevin Bruce Harris

Kevin Bruce Harris is an American jazz bassist.

Harris became known in the mid-1980s while working with the New York M-Base collective of Steve Coleman , David Gilmore , Greg Osby , Geri Allen , Marvin Smitty Smith and Cassandra Wilson . During this time he was a member of Coleman's band The Five Elements and was involved in their album of the same name (on JMT , 1986). In 1989 he played with pianist Rod Williams and his first album was released under his own name Kevin Harris & Militia on the TipToe label. In 1990 Harris worked with cornetists Graham Haynes ( What Time It be ) and Vincent Chancey . In 1990/91 he accompanied Cassandra Wilson on her albums Live and After the Beginning Again , later also on the album Sings Standards (2002). In 1993 a second album was released with his band Militia under the title And They Walked Amongst the People with u. a. Jason Hwang and David Gilmore, the 1994 album Folk Songs - Folk Tales .

Kevin Bruce Harris should not be confused with tenor saxophonist Kevin Harris of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band or with jazz pianist Kevin Harris .
