Khadim Hussain Rizvi ( Urdu خادم حسين رضوى; born June 22, 1966 in Attock, Punjab ) is a Pakistani Barelvi preacher and founding chairman of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan , whose program consists solely of punishing blasphemies .

Life

Rizvi regularly gave Friday talks at the Pir Makki Mosque in Lahore . Since 2006, Rizvi has been dependent on a wheelchair after a car accident.

In 2015 he founded Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. The establishment was in response to the execution of Mumtaz Qadri . This had murdered Salman Taseer , who had campaigned against the blasphemy laws. Rizvi became known for the Barelvi way of thinking. He justified the killing of Taseer because he called the blasphemy laws "black laws". Rizvi was warned by the provincial government of Punjab for his hate preaching and was finally dismissed from civil service.

Rizvi then focused on spreading his sermon and looked across the country for supporters for the blasphemy laws. He also campaigned for Mumtaz Qadri's release. In religious circles, his stance on blasphemy earned him the nickname "blasphemy activist".

Faizabad Sit In

On November 6, 2017, Rizvi organized a "Long March" from Lahore to Islamabad to protest against a change in Ordinance XX . The population was shocked by the language used by the religious leaders. In response to the protests, the government shut down news programs and social media. This measure exacerbated the tense situation and the army chief called on the government and protesters to exercise moderation.

Asia Bibi protests

On October 31, 2018, Christian Asia Bibi was released after 8 years in prison. She was accused by Muslim women of insulting the Prophet Mohammad and subsequently sentenced to death by a court. However, the Supreme Court overturned the verdict and ordered her release. The court also found that the women accused had no awareness of the truth and that the allegations were pure inventions. This led Rizvi and the TLP to organize protests across the country. Rizvi called for the death penalty for Asia Bibi under the Pakistani criminal code.
