Khairpur (Sindhi: خیرپور, Urdu: خيرپُور) is the administrative seat of the Khairpur district in Sindh Province in Pakistan . As a communication center, it is connected by rails to Peshawar and Karachi and by road to Sukkur and Karachi.
history
The city was founded in 1783 by Mīr Sohrāb Khān, who founded the Khairpur branch of the Tālpur family. The settlement was chosen as the seat of the Lords of the Prince State of Khairpur . In 1955 it was annexed by Pakistan.
economy
After the founding of Pakistan in 1947, the city developed industrially with textile, silk, leather and carpet factories as well as sugar and flour processing.

education
The city is the seat of the Shah Abdul Latif University , which has had university status since 1987.
