Khairpur District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Sindh Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Khairpur .
The district has an area of 15,910 km² and according to the 2017 census, 2,404,334 inhabitants. The population density is 151 inhabitants / km². The Sindhi language is spoken by the majority in the district .
geography
The district is located in the north of Sindh Province, which is located in southeastern Pakistan. It is bounded to the north by Shikarpur and Sukkur , to the east by India , to the south by Sanghar and Nawabshah, and to the west by Larkana , Naushahro Feroze and the Indus .

history
The district was the center of the princely state of Khairpur from 1775 to 1955 .
Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017 the population grew at an annual rate of 2.34%, which is very fast. About 32% of the population live in urban areas and about 68% in rural areas. 1,240,424 men, 1,163,806 women and 104 transgender people live in 412,857 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 106.6 men per 100 women, which is a frequent male surplus for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 51% (women: 32%, men: 69%) and thus below the average of the Sindh province of 60%.
