Shikarpur District is an administrative district in Pakistan in Sindh Province . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Shikarpur .
The district has an area of 2515 km² and according to the 2017 census 1,231,481 inhabitants. The population density is 490 inhabitants / km². The Sindhi language is spoken by the majority in the district .
location
The district is located in the north of Sindh Province, which is located in southeastern Pakistan. The Indus flows through the district in the east.

Demographics
Between 1998 and 2017, the population grew by 1.78% annually. Around 25% of the population live in urban regions and around 75% in rural regions. 634,985 men, 596,477 women and 19 transgender people live in 207,555 households , resulting in a gender ratio of 106.5 men per 100 women, which is a common surplus for Pakistan.
The literacy rate in the years 2014/15 among the population over 10 years of age was 45% (women: 29%, men: 60%) and thus below the average of the Sindh province of 60%.
