Khedrub Norsang Gyatsho ( Tib . : mkhas grub nor bzang rgya mtsho ; * 1423 ; † 1513 ) was an important Tibetan scholar and clergyman of Tibetan Buddhism in the 15th century. He was a student of the 1st Dalai Lama and principal teacher of the 2nd Dalai Lama . He belonged to the Gelug school , but took a syncretistic approach to Mahamudra teachings and practices between the Gelug and Kagyu schools. Together with Phugpa Lhündrub Gyatsho ( phug pa lhun grub rgya mtsho ), Norsang Gyatsho belonged to the influential Phug school of Tibetan astronomy and astrology, which dates back to Lhündrub Gyatsho . He is revered as a great meditator and teacher in the Tibetan tradition and is one of the masters of many lineages of practice, including that of Kalachakra .
