The Khemara Keila FC was a football club from Phnom Penh in Cambodia . He became Cambodian soccer champion in 2005 and 2006 . Due to financial problems, the association dissolved in 2011.

history

Khemara Keila was founded in 1997 and was one of the founding members of the newly created Cambodian League in 2005 . The association was sponsored by the Cambodian politician Norodom Ranariddh . In the debut season, Khemara won his first Cambodian football championship with a 3-0 win over Hello United . Through this success, the club qualified for the AFC President's Cup 2006 , in which Khemara was able to advance to the semi-finals, but there failed 3-0 at the later titleholder Dordoi-Dynamo . In the 2006 season, the team was able to successfully defend the national championship title. Again Khemara met in the final against the local rivals, now renamed Phnom Penh United , the game could be won 5: 4. In the AFC President's Cup 2007 Khemara was eliminated in the group stage.

After the introduction of the Hun Sen Cup , the national soccer cup competition of Cambodia, in 2007 Khemara Keila was able to advance to the final in the first edition. The final against Nagacorp FC , which took place on May 19, 2007 at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh , was won 4: 2 on penalties, after the end of regular time it was 1: 1. In the national league, Khemara finished eight points behind Nagacorp FC , and there was no play-off round this season. In 2009 Khemara was able to move into the final of the Cambodian football championship in the play-offs. The final played on September 26, 2009, however, was lost 2-1 after extra time against Nagacorp . In 2010, the club missed participation in the play-offs with 7th place. In November 2010, the club announced that it would withdraw from the 2011 Hun Sen Cup . The reason given was financial problems after Norodom Ranariddh withdrew as a sponsor. The resulting massive loss of players was also complained about. The club tried further to enable the game operation in the Cambodian League 2011 through new sponsors . However, the club no longer appeared for the 2011 season and has since been dissolved.
