Khongorzul Ganbaatar

Khongorzul Ganbaatar or Khongorzul ( Mongolian Ганбаатарын Хонгорзул , Ganbaataryn Chongordsul ; born April 7, 1973 ) is a Mongolian Urtyn-duu singer.

Khongorzul grew up in the Mongolian province of Chentii , where she got to know the traditional Mongolian Urtyn duu (long chant), a type of chant in which each syllable of the text is stretched so long that a song lasting several minutes can consist of ten words. She applied to the Khan Khentii Folk Music Ensemble and was accepted as a member.

She did not acquire professional music education until 1998 at the University of Ulaanbaatar . In the same year she won the Urtyn duu professional singers competition. Since then she has performed in Ulaanbaatar as a soloist with the Mongolian Theater for National Dance and Folk Song and the Traditional Music and Dance Theater.

Concert tours have taken her to the USA, Russia, Japan and China and various European countries. She has performed at Carnegie Hall , the Hollywood Bowl , Suntory Hall , Royal Albert Hall , the Bolshoi Theater and the Concertgebouw , among others . She has toured with Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble and took part in their album When Strangers Meet .
