The Khufu Peak is a mountain about 745 m high on the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises in the center of Fossil Bluff in the east of the island.
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) was the mountain for a long time under the name of The Pyramid (English for The Pyramid ) known. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee made a renaming on April 18, 1988 to avoid confusion with objects of the same name in Antarctica. It is named after the Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu (better known in German-speaking countries as Cheops , ruled from 2620 to 2580 BC), who had the pyramid named after him built.
