Kiefeld is a district of the municipality of Hesel in the district of Leer in East Frisia .

The moor settlement was founded in 1775. It was first mentioned in a document in 1787 as Kieffeld . The current spelling has been used since 1823. The place name refers to a piece of farmland over which there was a dispute. In 1820, the residents were granted a part of the Hesel community pasture, which was divided up among the colonists in 1827. Kieffeld was a poor settlement with far too small colonies. In order to improve the economic basis of the pine fields, 143 hectares of peat bog were sold to 32 colonists in 1884 .
