Location of Hesel in the Leeraner district area

Beningafehn is a district of the municipality of Hesel in the district of Leer in East Frisia . Although it belongs to Hesel, it forms a unit with the community of Neukamperfehn in terms of the entire village life and also structurally . For example, the Beningafehntjer elementary school children go to school in Neukamperfehn and the Lutheran and Reformed Christians from Beningafehn belong to the Stiekelkamperfehn parish.

history

Beningafehn was founded in 1772 in the late phase of the bog colonization as Louwermans Vehn by the Dutch Arent Jan van Louwerman, who already owned shares in Neuefehn and had laid out the Spetzerfehn . Louwermann finally sold the Louwermansfehn in 1788 to members of the Lantzius-Beninga family . This is how it got its current name. Beningafehn is a bog settlement . Contrary to what the place name suggests, however, it has never become a Fehnsiedlung in the strict sense of the word, as there are no Fehn canals (Wieken) running through the village.
