Kleinhesel is a residential area in the municipality of Hesel in the district of Leer in Lower Saxony .

The settlement was created in 1809 in the "Vorwerker Moor" of the Heseler Johannitervorwerk . It was first mentioned in 1848 as "Klein-Heesel". Other names are "Klein-Hesel" (1852) and "Klein Heselermoor" (1930).

In 1848, 171 people lived in the village, spread over 36 residential buildings. Their economic strength was modest. In 1889 and 1894, the district committee in Leer rejected two applications for independence from the Kleinhesel community due to the colony's lack of financial resources. In order to improve the economic situation, a total of 143 hectares of peat bog were sold to 32 colonists from Kiefeld and Kleinhesel in 1884 to improve their economic situation.
