The Adria gravel pit is an approximately twelve-hectare open-cast mine . It is located in the Dessau-Roßlau district of Mildensee , directly on the A 9 .
history
In the 1930s, gravel was extracted from opencast mining for the construction of the Reichsautobahn Berlin - Munich . After the section of the motorway, for which the gravel was needed, was completed, the remaining open pit was renatured and on July 15, 1939 the “Reichsautobahnbad Mildensee” with changing rooms and restaurants was opened.
General
The former gravel pit is located in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve and in the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm . The “Freizeitpark Adria”, also known as “Strandbad Adria” or “Waldbad Adria”, is located on the lake and the surrounding area. There are dining facilities and a campsite there.
The amusement park can be reached with the Dessau city bus, via the Dessau-Ost exit of the nearby A 9, via the B 107 and via the Adria stop of the Dessau-Wörlitz railway .
