The gravel lake Neu Zachun is a quarry pond created by gravel mining within the municipality of Hoort in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The lake is located one kilometer west of the eponymous Hoort district of Neu Zachun, 1.4 kilometers southeast of Bandenitz and 16 kilometers southwest of Schwerin . The Hagenow Land – Schwerin railway runs directly to the east of the water, to the south the federal motorway 24 and to the north the county road 30. The west and south banks are wooded. The almost rectangular gravel lake is about 385 meters long and 275 meters wide. It occupies an area of ten hectares, the circumference is 1.26 kilometers. The water level is 34.4 meters above sea level. Due to the way it was formed, the lake has no inflows or outflows.
The body of water was created artificially around 1980 by the accumulation of groundwater in a gravel pit. For the construction of the transit motorway from Hamburg to Wittstock / Dosse, today's A 24, the pit served as a filling floor supplier. In 1982 a municipal bathing establishment was opened, which was operated by the municipality until the fall of the Berlin Wall and was then leased out. A water ski lift was installed on the water in the 1990s . The lawn on the north bank was redesigned and a campsite was set up. A catering facility and sanitary facilities were built.
In the bathing water maps issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Kiessee Neu Zachun has achieved the highest water quality level since 2000.
