Nutritional science , sports medicine and sports science deal scientifically with sports nutrition ( sports nutrition ) .

Sports nutrition goals

The improvement of the athlete's training and competition performance, as well as the support of regeneration after exercise, are the main goals of sports nutrition. It should be individually tailored to the current needs of the respective athlete in terms of energy content and energy composition. Use is made of foods and dietary supplements (short- and long-chain carbohydrates , fats , proteins ), the content of vitamins , minerals and trace elements , the fluid balance and the content of dietary fiber , to be compiled. The phases in which the athlete is ( training and build-up phase, pre-competition phase, competition day, regeneration phase), the type of sporting load ( endurance sports , endurance sports with high effort, martial arts , game sports , high-speed sports), and the age of the Athletes (sports in childhood and adulthood, senior sports ).

Prohibited measures to improve performance ( doping ) must be distinguished from the permitted performance-enhancing sports nutrition . In order to differentiate individual products with regard to doping, there is, for example, the Cologne List , in which products with a minimized doping risk are listed.

Professional societies

Professionals in Nutrition for Exercise and Sport (PINES) is the international society for professionals in the field of sports nutrition. PINES is an international reference point for sports nutrition. In 2003 the International Society of Sport Nutrition (ISSN) ( International Society of Sport Nutrition ) was founded. The society publishes the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (JISSN) as a trade journal . In German-speaking countries there is the Austrian Society for Sports Nutrition and the Swiss Sports Nutrition Society.
