Petra Platen

Petra Platen (born November 7, 1959 in Moers ) is a German sports doctor and former national handball player .

Life

Platen studied biology and human medicine at the University of Cologne from 1978 to 1987 and was licensed as a doctor in 1987. From 1987 to 2005 she was a research assistant, assistant, academic advisor and senior councilor at the German Sport University Cologne . In 1990 she received her doctorate at the University of Cologne and in 1997 her habilitation for sports medicine at the German Sport University Cologne. Since 2005 she has been W3 Professor for Sports Medicine and Sports Nutrition at the Faculty of Sports Science at the Ruhr University Bochum . Platen is chairman of the Working Group on Safety in Sport (ASiS).

Platen was a handball player at TuS Preußen Vluyn and Bayer 04 Leverkusen as well as a 208-time national player for the German national handball team . She scored 355 international goals. As a team captain, the player on the left wing took part in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where she finished fourth with the German team.
