Kiezkieken

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berlin short film festival kiezkieken is dedicated to the city of Berlin and its residents. It was launched in 2009 by the cultural scientist and artist Eva Susanne Schmidhuber and takes place biennially. The festival gives an insight into urban development and offers a forum for open, creative and lively exchange about the urban needs and wishes of city residents. The festival program includes neighborhood tours, video installations, workshops, discussions and the short film competition.

Short film competition

The short film competition is aimed at city dwellers in Berlin. The focus is on the selected districts.

As part of the festival program, there are neighborhood tours that invite you to go on a tour of discovery through the city. The district tours convey knowledge of the history of the city and, under professional guidance, give an insight into unknown places or make known places tangible from new perspectives. Video installations fill the venues with the atmosphere of the neighborhood and make the development of the district accessible to the audience through multimedia.

interaction

Social contrasts and urban developments are juxtaposed through the selection of changing different parts of Berlin , which are illustrated and openly discussed on the media level of the film festival. Networks and connections are formed between the neighborhoods and the people who live in them.

Locality

"Local is global, whoever understands his neighborhood will also understand the world." ( Hannes Stöhr, cultural godfather of kiezkieken )

kiezkieken starts at the point of daily life in order to react to current social processes and to encourage active participation. The local reference captures social contexts using a specific example.

In 2009, the selected locations Kottbusser Tor, Sonnenallee and the area around the Mediaspree project are the theme. In 2010 the non-profit association kiezkieken Berliner Kurzfilmfestival eV was founded. In 2011, the reference locations will be expanded to include the districts of Wedding , Prenzlauer Berg and Marzahn . The venues are local cultural institutions, the ATZE Musiktheater (Wedding), the Zeiss Großplanetarium (Prenzlauer Berg), the ORWOhaus (Marzahn) and the WABE (closing event).

Kiezkieken works closely with various cultural initiatives in the districts and is part of Festiwelt, an association of Berlin film festivals. In addition, kiezkieken was supported in 2011 by the patronage of Christian Hanke (Wedding), Matthias Köhne (Pankow) and Dagmar Pohle (Marzahn), who represent the districts as district mayors . The director Hannes Stöhr - known for his Berlin-related films such as Berlin Calling - is the festival's creative godfather.
