Matthias Koehne

Matthias Köhne (born June 7, 1966 in Itzehoe ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was mayor of the Berlin district of Pankow .

Köhne grew up in Kellinghusen . After graduating from high school, he did his community service in a special school for the mentally handicapped in Bad Bramstedt . Köhne joined the SPD in 1982 and initially worked for the Jusos in Schleswig-Holstein . From 1987-1994 he studied at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Palermo and graduated with a degree in political science . He took advantage of a grant from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation .

From 1994 Köhne worked for the SPD parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives as a research assistant. Among other things, he was responsible for the work of members of the committee of inquiry into Schönefeld Airport and the main committee. From 1999 to 2000 he was District Councilor for Environment, Nature and Real Estate at the District Office Pankow, and after a break from 2002 to 2006 District Councilor for Environment, Housing and Citizen Services. In 2005 he was elected Deputy Mayor; since his election in October 2006 he has been the district mayor of Pankow. After two terms in office, he did not run again in the 2016 Berlin elections . Sören Benn ( LINKE ) was elected as his successor in office .
