Christian Hanke

Christian Hanke (* 14. November 1962 in Berlin-Hermsdorf ) is a German politician of the SPD . From 2006 to 2016 he was the district mayor of the Berlin district of Mitte . He is a member of the Catholic Church, divorced and has two daughters.

Life

After completing his school education in the Reinickendorf district of Berlin , he studied social studies and German , philosophy and educational science at the Free University of Berlin . There he completed his studies as a teacher. After graduating, he worked as a lecturer and teacher in Berlin. He was also a research assistant to the Bundestag member Jörg-Otto Spiller (SPD). In 1997 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil.

From 1989 he was a member of the District Assembly of the former Wedding District and, after the merger in 2001, a member of BVV Mitte. He was then from 2001 to October 2006 District Councilor for Health and Social Affairs in Mitte. As mayor, he has been responsible for health, human resources, legal and control services since 2006. Within his party he was district chairman from 2002 to 2012 and deputy state chairman from 2004 to 2010.

In the Berlin elections in 2016 , the SPD lost the majority in the district council meeting of Mitte and Stephan von Dassel ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) was elected as the new district mayor.
