In Budō, the basic or basic techniques (Japanese 基本 技 , Kihon Waza) are meant, which can differ significantly from martial art to martial art. So it is in Karate and Jiu Jitsu and other punching and kicking techniques, in Judo throwing and floor techniques and in Kendō and Iaidō cutting and thrusting techniques with the Shinai (Japanese bamboo sword) or the Iaitō or shinken .

karate

In karate, the kihon is used to create the basis for later success in combat (Japanese kumite - "meeting of the hands"). Through multiple repetitions and constant practice, the basic techniques are "perfected" and then combined into more complex combinations in the kata - the stylized fight against imaginary opponents.

Essential components of the Kihon are:

  • Uke Waza - block techniques
  • Uchi Waza - striking techniques
  • Zuki Waza - pushing techniques
  • Keri Waza - kicks
  • Nage Waza - throwing techniques
  • Tachikata - postures
  • Kamaekata - postures

Similar basic techniques under similar keywords can be found in all karate styles.

Kendo

In Kendo, the following are the basic techniques:

  • Shomen-Uchi - The straight blow to the head (Men)
  • Kote-Uchi - The blow to the right wrist (Kote)
  • Do-Uchi - The blow to the right stomach side (Do)
  • Tsuki - The thrust to the throat (Tsuki)
