Kilian Rebentrost also Chilianus Rebentrost (* July 8, 1582 in Platten , Böhmen , † July 23, 1661 in Annaberg ) was a Lutheran clergyman, exile and preacher on the mount in Annaberg.

Life

Kilian Rebentrost was the son of pastor Georg Rebentrost (* in Annaberg) and his wife Elisabeth, née. Schober (* in St. Joachimsthal), daughter of the mayor of St. Joachimsthal Hans Schober.

After studying theology, he became a deacon in his native town in 1610 and took over the pastor's position there from his father in 1615. Before 1624, a great fire destroyed his house in Platten. It smashed the beds of its children, who stayed in another chamber for prayer and could thus be saved. In 1624 he was removed from office and held his farewell sermon on August 18, 1624 in Platten. The schoolmaster Elias Richter took over the baptisms for him at times until he was replaced by pastor Johann Jahn in 1631 .

Rebentrost went to Annaberg with his wife and seven children. There he first looked for a job at the local school. Because of his merits, he was appointed preacher on the mount in 1627. He died at the age of 79 after 54 years in church service as a jubilant priest. His successor was Johann Christoph Gensel. In 1631 his son Kilian attended the Meissen Princely School. His uncle was the pastor Jakob Schober and his nephew the pastor David Rebentrost . A portrait of Kilian Rebentrost hung in the mountain chapel in Annaberg.
