Gräßles Weinstube had to give way to Kiliansplatz.

The Kiliansplatz is a central place in the Heilbronner city center. It is named after the neighboring Kilian's Church and has been named after 1835; At times, however, the "Kilianplatz" shape was also used.

history

At the intersection of Fleiner, Sülmer- and Kramstraße, a complex was created opposite the choir of Kilian's Church in 1834, which was soon referred to as Kiliansplatz and which has officially been named since 1835. When in 1897, with the breakthrough from the new Kaiserstraße to the avenue, a traffic axis was created in an east-west direction that was used by trams , Kiliansplatz gained some importance as a traffic junction, which it only lost again with the introduction of the pedestrian zones . In 1988 the square was redesigned. Today it is part of the Heilbronn pedestrian zone and is used for festivals and events.

Development

Some historic buildings, such as the baker David Gräßle's wine tavern, where the Gräßle Society used to meet, were demolished in 1894 in the run-up to the breakthrough from Kaiserstraße to Allee. The buildings that remained, mostly from the Wilhelminian era, were destroyed in the air raids on Heilbronn in World War II, so that today, apart from the rebuilt Kilian's Church, the square is surrounded by relatively young buildings. In the time before the Second World War, Kiliansplatz was a popular motif on postcards etc.

Fountain

The Komödiantenbrunnen , which Eberhard Linke created in 1996, is located on Kiliansplatz . The historic seven-tube fountain at Kilian's Church is counted as part of Kirchbrunnengasse.
