Kilitkaya ( Greek Κρίδεια Krideia ) is a village on the Karpas Peninsula in the north of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and is located in the İskele district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . The place had 172 inhabitants in 2011.

Kilitkaya is located on the Karpas Peninsula, five kilometers southeast of Kantara Castle .

history

In the time of the Ottoman rule (1570 / 71–1878), censuses were carried out for the purpose of tax collection, such as in 1831. 16 Turkish heads of household were counted. In 1891 the British colonial authorities counted 136 inhabitants, all of whom were considered Turks. In 1901 there were 154 Turks. In 1931 there were 232 Turks, in 1946, however, 327. In 1964 the place took in refugee Turks and was administratively part of the enclave Mehmetçik. 1971 probably 400 inhabitants in the village. In the 1960 census, there were 353 Cypriot Turks, in 1973 382, ​​in 1978 there were only 267. In the 1996 and 2006 censuses there were 177 inhabitants.

Today the original inhabitants of the village live in the village.
