Jarosław Abramow-Newerly (born May 17, 1933 in Warsaw ) is a Polish writer and composer . In particular, he wrote satires that were often adapted as radio plays .

Life

Jarosław Abramow-Newerly was born on May 17, 1933 to Igor Newerly . From 1951 to 1955 he studied polonistics at the University of Warsaw , where he co-founded the Studencki Teatr Satyryków (STS; Student Satirist Theater) in 1954 , for which he wrote texts and music and worked as an actor until 1969. He published his first satires, skits and monologues written for this theater in 1957 in the anthology Myślenie ma kolosalną przyszłość (Thinking has a colossal future). In 1956 he was co-founder and editor-in-chief of the weekly “ Od nowa ” (From New). From 1958 to 1959 he was a reporter in Paris . From 1960 to 1966 he worked at the Radiowy Teatr Młodych . For his piece Anioł na dworcu (An Angel at the Train Station) he received the Piętak Prize in 1965 (Nagroda im. S. Piętaka). In 1967 he received the Kościelski Prize .

Abramow-Newerly stayed in Toronto from 1985 to 1989 because of a scholarship from his wife . During this time he worked with the Polish daily newspaper "Związkowiec" (trade unionist). This stay is the main source for his novels Pan Zdzich w Kanadzie (Mr. Zdzich in Canada), Alianci (The Allies) and Kładka przez Atlantyk (Bridge across the Atlantic) , published in the 1990s .

In 2001 he received the ZAiKS award .

In the early 2000s he wrote several autobiographical writings such as Lwy mojego podwórka (Lions of my court), Lwy wyzwolone (Liberated Lions) or Lwy STS-u (Lions of the STS).

He is a member of the Polish Writers' Union ( Związek Literatów Polskich ), the Society of Polish Writers ( Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich ) and the Polish PEN Club . His works have been translated into Danish , German , French , Italian , Russian , Swedish , Serbo-Croatian , Slovenian , Czech and Hungarian languages .

He also wrote the music and lyrics for some songs, especially for Agnieszka Osiecka .
