Kilkus was an English nu-metal band from London that was founded in 1998 and split up around 2002 under the name Dury Falls .

history

The band was formed in May 1998 by teenagers in East London , where "Kilkus" is an imaginary word. The cast initially consisted of singer Paul Collins, guitarists Chris Macarre and Chris Ransom, bassist David Holland, drummer Christopher Lloyd Hayden and DJ Ed Trowse. The group wrote the first songs and played concerts in Essex and London, among others . She performed with One Minute Silence , Lostprophets and Stampin 'Ground, among others . In early 2000 the group signed a record deal with Visible Noise . Before signing the contract, it was a trademark of the band that all members, except for the singer Collins, wore masks. In the Adelaide studio , twelve songs were then recorded and mixed for a debut album under the direction of Grant Mathews . The self-produced album was released in 2001 under the name The Pattern of Self Design . After the release, the singer Paul Collins left the cast, after which the guitarist Chris Macaree took that post and continued with only one guitarist. After that, the group planned to record a second album. After Tom came on as the new bass player, the first recordings followed in early 2002 with a new line-up. The band announced the release of a new demo at the time. In April they went on a tour of England. Shortly after Collins' departure, the band renamed Dury Falls. Many members now look after their families or are involved in other projects, such as Christopher Lloyd Hayden at Florence + the Machine .

style

According to the band biography on kilkus.net , the band was influenced by bands like Machine Head , Pearl Jam and Pantera in their founding phase . According to Christian Graf in his New Metal and Crossover Lexicon , the band's music was referred to as “Post- Thrash - Emo ” after the first demos were released. For Greg Pratt from Exclaim! the band played ordinary Nu Metal on The Pattern of Self Design .
