The Kim Chong-tae Electric Locomotive Works ( 김종태 전기 기관차 작품 Kim Jongt'ae Chŏn'gi Kigwanch'a Chakp'um ) are a company that produces all kinds of rolling stock . The company's headquarters are in the Sŏsŏng-guyŏk district on  Sochon Street in Pyongyang , the capital of North Korea . The Sop'yŏngyang train station is in the immediate vicinity . The most important customer is the Korean State Railways .

history

The company was founded in 1945. The first electric locomotive was produced from 1968. North Korean propaganda claims that the DK4 subways were produced here from 1972 to 1973. In reality, they are from China. It was given its current name in 1999/2000 as part of a restructuring process. It previously operated under the name Kim Chŏng-tae Economic Power Complex. As part of an inspection by Kim Jong-il on January 5, 2002, production of a new range of electric locomotives began.

Kim Jong-un visited the factory in October 2015 and inspected new vehicles for the Pyongyang Metro . On November 19, 2015, he undertook a test drive in such a vehicle and then visited the plants again.
