Kim Erkki Akseli Jäämeri (born June 5, 1964 in Helsinki , Finland ) is a Finnish brigadier general and since April 1, 2014 the commander of the Finnish Air Force .

Life

Kim Jäämeri joined the Finnish Air Force as a reserve officer in 1982 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1983 . From 1984 to 1987 he completed the officer course and his training as a fighter pilot. He was then transferred to the Hävittäjälentolaivue 21 (Jagdstaffel 21) in Tampere as a weapons instructor , where he served until 1992. Afterwards Jäämeri was trained as a test pilot and was used as such in Satakunta from 1993 to 1997. In 1995, Jäämeri also became a flight instructor for the newly introduced F / A-18 Hornet weapon system and carried out the retraining of Finnish pilots in Lemoore , California .

From 1997 to 1998 he took part in the course for staff officers with the rank of major and worked at the Collège Interarmées de Défense in Paris until 1999 . In 1999 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and took over command of Hävittäjälentolaivue 21 , to which he himself had previously belonged and led it until 2001. Until 2004, he was employed as a military advisor to the chairman of the European Union's military committee in Brussels . After this activity and after completing the Senior Command Course , Jäämeri was deployed in various positions in the Defense Command of the Finnish Armed Forces until 2007. In 2006 Jäämeri became a colonel .

From 2007 Jäämeri was director of Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulu, a university of the Finnish armed forces in Helsinki. On January 1, 2011 he went back to Tampere and took over as commander of the Satakunta Air Command , which is responsible for securing the southwestern part of the country. Before being appointed Chief of the Finnish Air Force, he was Deputy Chief of Staff in the Air Force Command from 2012 to 2014.

The President of the Republic of Finland , Sauli Niinistö , announced on November 8, 2013 that Jäämeri would become commander of the Finnish Air Force from April 2014, and on December 6, 2013 he was appointed Brigadier General. In a ceremony in Tikkakoski on March 31, 2014, Jäämeri took over command of the Finnish Air Force from Major General Lauri Puranen, effective April 1, 2014 .
