Kim Kwang-lim or Kim Kwang-rim (born September 21, 1929 in Wŏnsan , Hamgyŏng-namdo ) is a South Korean poet .

Life

Kim Kwang-lim was born on September 21, 1929 in Wŏnsan, Hamgyŏng-namdo. Kim attended Wŏnsan Middle School and after moving to South Korea, he graduated from Kukhak University with a degree in literature . In 1966 he published Contemporary Poetry (현대 시학) and received the "Prize of the Korean Poets' Association" and the "Literature Prize of the Republic of Korea". Sliding paper door (문풍지) - 1948 in the "Yonhap sinmun" - and Rose (장미) - in Poems of the Korean War (전시 한국 문학 선 시편) 1955 - were the first poems by Kim to be published. His literary career officially began in 1957 when he published the collection of poems War and Music and Hope and .. (전쟁 과 음악 과 희망 과) together with Kim Chong-sam and Chŏn Pong-gŏn .

His early poems literally overflow with the pain and suffering he had to endure as a result of the Korean War. After the armistice of 1953, Kim's poems showed less interest in issues such as war or Korean society, but an increased interest in depicting phenomena with a focus on visual imagery.

Following the publication of his second anthology The bright shadow of the imagination (심상 의 밝은 그림자) in 1962, he concentrated on the concept of the perfect, pure image. He freed his works of all abstraction and looked for an aesthetic that isolates the image and detaches it from its external semantic connections.

In the 1970s , Kim began to incorporate elements of Sŏn Buddhism into his works. This was the culmination of the poet's efforts to remove prosaic elements and abstraction from his poems and isolate the bare, unobstructed image. Kim is very fixated on perfectly realizing the poetic portrayal of a portrait and creating a profound awareness of the same, which puts his works on a new, metaphysical level. After the publication of his work The Bird Made of Language (언어 로 만든 새) in 1979, Kim tried again to break the boundaries of language and to stretch them to the utmost by radically flattening his language, similar to the practices of Sŏn Buddhism .
