Philip Caputo
Philip Caputo (born June 10, 1941 in Westchester, Illinois ) is an American author and journalist . He achieved great fame through his bestselling novel A Rumor of War , in which he describes his experiences as a soldier in the United States Marine Corps in the Vietnam War .
Philip Caputo landed with the first American combat units in Da Nang , Vietnam , in 1965 . After 16 months of service, Caputo ended his service with the US Army in Vietnam. He then worked as a journalist for the Chicago Tribune and later as a Middle East correspondent. In 1977 Caputo published his autobiographical memoir A Rumor of War . He lives in Connecticut .
