Kim Momb

Kim Momb (* 1956 ; † 1986 in Nakusp ) was an American mountaineer. Momb wrote alpine history when he first climbed the east face of Mount Everest in 1983 with Louis Reichardt and Carlos Buhler .

Momb started skiing on Mount Spokane at the age of six . In 1976 he accompanied his sister and her boyfriend on a climbing tour and then turned completely to climbing. He climbed El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in one day. In 1980 he was a participant in the All Spokane Expedition to Makalu , which wanted to conquer the summit without the support of Sherpas and bottled oxygen. Momb was the only one who reached the summit, his two teammates Chris Kopczynski and Jim States had to give up shortly before the summit. In 1985 he received the David A. Sowles Memorial Award for outstanding mountaineering achievements.

Shortly before his 30th birthday crashed MOMB in an avalanche near Nakusp , where he Heliskiingfahrer supervised. Although he could still be brought to the hospital, he died there of his injuries.
