Kim Myong-guk

Kim Myong-guk (* 1940 ) is a North Korean General of the People's Army as well as politicians of the Workers' Party of Korea .

Life

Kim Myong-guk, cousin of Kim Jong-il , completed after the visit of the Revolutionary School of Mangyongdae study at Kim Il-sung University and an officer training at the Frunze Military Academy of Soviet Forces in Moscow . He then found employment in the People's Army as an officer for military planning and was later a lecturer and senior lecturer for strategy and tactics at military schools and Kim Il-sung University. He was also Chief of Staff at the April 25 Training Center and was promoted to Lieutenant General in the People's Army in 1982 . As such, he took over the post of head of the training department in the General Staff's Operations Administration in 1984 and was at the same time planning officer in the Ministry of the People's Army and tutor of military affairs for his cousin Kim Jong-il.

At the 16th plenum of the 6th Central Committee in June 1989, Kim Myong-guk became a candidate of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK) and in 1990 a member of the Supreme People's Assembly . At the 19th plenum of the 6th Central Committee on December 24, 1991, he became a member of the Central Committee of the PdAK. In April 1994 he was promoted to colonel general and was a member of the funeral committee after Kim Il-sung's death on July 8, 1994. Between 1994 and 1996 he was for the first time Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Director of the General Staff Operations Administration. In February 1995 he was also a member of the funeral committee after the death of longtime Minister of Defense O Chin-u . He was also promoted to general in 1995 and a member of the Central Military Commission of the PDAK. In 1996 he took over the post of commanding general of the 108th Mechanized Corps.

In 2007, General Kim Myong-guk reassumed the post of Director of the General Staff Operations Administration. As such, he was responsible for managing operational planning and communication between the commander-in-chief of the People's Army, the commanding generals of the corps and the various units. He also oversaw the training and planning activities of the Pyongyang Defense Command and the Internal Security Forces of the People's Army. In 2009 and 2010, he directed the planning for several military exercises, which were attended by Kim Jong-il and other members of the state and party leadership. in January 2010 he was demoted to the rank of colonel general before being promoted back to general in April 2010. On October 28, 2010, he was re-elected as one of three previous members of the Central Military Commission of the PdAK. At the end of 2012, he was recalled as Director of the General Staff's Operations Headquarters and replaced by General Ri Yong-gil , but remained a member of the Central Military Commission and the Central Committee of the PdAK.
