Kim Seon-young (born February 23, 1979 ) is a former South Korean judoka . She won an Olympic bronze medal in the heavyweight division.
The 1.73 m tall Kim Seon-young won a bronze medal in the open class at the 1996 Asian Championships. Three years later she reached the heavyweight final and was defeated by the Chinese Zhang Qingli . In 2000, as in the previous year, she was in the heavyweight finals of the Asian Championships, this time she lost to the Chinese Tong Wen . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 Kim Seon-young lost in her first fight against the Cuban Daima Beltrán after 1:23 minutes. With three wins in the round of hope, Kim reached the battle for the bronze medal against the German Sandra Köppen and won by judge decision (yusei-gachi). In 2001, the Korean fought successfully in some World Cup tournaments, so she came third in the Super World Cup in Seville. After that, her international career ended.
