Kim Yong Taik (born September 28, 1948 in Imsil , Ch'ŏllabuk-do ) is a South Korean poet .

Life

Kim Yong Taik was born on September 28, 1948 in Imsil , Ch'ŏllabuk-do . He made his official debut in 1982 when eight of his poems were published in an anthology of famous lyric poets. In 1985 he published his first own collection of poems.

The starting point of Kim's works is what is forgotten in the hectic pace of modern life, the land, a blade of grass, the smell of mother's hair. His loving and sensitive observation of the everyday life of people who live in the country gave city dwellers an unadulterated representation of rural life. The virtues of his poems lie in the keen, critical spirit that accompanies his intimate depictions of country life; the poetic sensitivity of the poet is accompanied by a stern voice of criticism. In his work Even if the song is out of rhythm, the drums keep beating the rhythm (마당 은 비뚤어 졌어 도 장구 는 바로 치자), for example, Kim disapproves of the city politicians and government decision-makers who he believes are reports about falsified and twisted the situation of the peasants.

His poetic undertaking is based on the sincere desire to endow rural society with dignity. However, this simple gesture is prone to criticism. His need for fellowship is sincere, and that is lacking in the intricate theories of modernity. The robust and critical spirit of his poems derives from the use of the Ch'ŏlla dialect in poetic forms such as Kasa (가사), T'aryŏng (타령), and P'ansori (판소리). The combination of dialect, proverbs and idioms enhances the rural feeling. Using traditional rhythms enables his lyric to create tension, anger and laughter.
