The Children's Museum of the Egyptian Museum Cairo is a museum specially designed to teach young visitors the culture, history, and archeology of Ancient Egypt . The museum was founded on the initiative of the then director of the Cairo Egyptian Museum , Wafaa el-Saddik , and opened on January 18, 2010 by Prince Henrik of Denmark . The museum is located in the basement under the west wing of the Egyptian Museum.

Didactic concept

The museum offers direct access to ancient Egyptian culture and civilization in a way that is child-friendly . The target group are on the one hand Egyptian children who get to know their own cultural heritage and understand it as part of their history. On the other hand, the exhibition also offers young foreign visitors an insight into the most important areas of life, the cult of the dead and the world of gods.

When it comes to museum education , value is placed on the interaction of high -quality original finds , models made of Lego bricks, the use of didactic materials and the possibility of taking part in workshops.

The exhibition is spatially divided into topics. This includes everyday life, the cult of the dead with mummies , canopic jars , shabtis and grave goods , the art of writing with sculptures by scribes, papyri and hieroglyphs , the world of rulers, i.e. the pharaohs and the ancient Egyptian gods .

For the presentation, the showcases for the height of the children were placed lower than in conventional museums. The labels take your needs into account in a special way.

Egyptian school classes can book guided tours of the exhibition, followed by workshops. Barrier-free access for the disabled is facilitated by ramps. There are also special programs for the blind.
